Often known as the Catedral Metropolitana do Rio de Janeiro, the Cathedral of St Sebastian has stood proudly in the heart of the historic district since 1979.
Designed by Bishop Ivo Antônio Calliari, this strikingly modern pyramid-shaped wonder draws the eye unlike any other building in the city. The interior diameter measures 96 metres at its base, and it can accommodate up to 20,000 worshippers at a time.
